The Navy says 840 crew members of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive for the coronavirus, the Navy has reported.
A month after pulling into Guam, 88 sailors have recovered and four remain hospitalized, but none are in the intensive care unit, the Navy said. Over 4,200 individuals — 88% of the crew — have been moved ashore.
Former captain Brett Crozier, in his letter to top Navy brass before he was relieved of duty, had asked for 90% of the crew removed, Fox News reported.
There were 4,098 results that came back negative, with a small number of tests still pending, the Navy reported.
The Roosevelt pulled into Guam on March 27, about 10 days early, as the virus spread around the ship, Fox News noted. The scheduled maintenance stop was originally only supposed to last a week.
