The president of the University of Notre Dame has tested positive for coronavirus after attending the White House ceremony to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, The Hill reports.
A spokesperson for the school confirmed on Friday that the Rev. John Jenkins, 66, tested positive for the virus. He previously issued an apology to the Notre Dame community for not wearing a mask while at the White House for the event, and has been in quarantine since he returned from the Capitol.
“My symptoms are mild and I will continue work from home,” Jenkins said in a statement. “The positive test is a good reminder for me and perhaps for all of how vigilant we need to be.”
President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he and the first lady have tested positive for the coronavirus following a positive test for one of his top aides, Hope Hicks. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who was also at the nomination ceremony, has tested positive for COVID-19, as has Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel.
