Oprah Winfrey is hosting a two-night town hall with leaders, activists and artists in the black community to talk about racism, Variety reported Friday.
Broadcast on Winfrey’s OWN channel, “Where Do We Go From Here?” will air June 9 and June 10 and be simulcast both nights on all of OWN parent company Discovery’s 18 other networks.
The special was sparked by the massive protests after the death of George Floyd while he was in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn., on May 25.
“I’ve been having private conversations with friends and thought leaders about what’s next and where we go from here,” Winfrey told Variety. “I thought it would be both of interest and service to bring their ideas, concerns and comments into a national spotlight.”
Some of the featured guests will include former Georgia Democratic Rep. Stacey Abrams, New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, filmmaker Ava DuVernay, professor and author Jennifer Eberhardt, journalist and founder of the “1619 Project” Nikole Hannah-Jones, historian and author Ibram Kendi, actor David Oyelowo, Color of Change founder Rashad Robinson, and NAACP national board member Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II.
David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discover, said the town hall has a potential audience of “one billion people across more than 200 markets.”
