President Donald Trump said Sunday evening he told Chinese officials he's not happy with them because of the coronavirus pandemic, which began in Wuhan, China.
Trump addressed the media with members of his White House Coronavirus Task Force and indicated his displeasure with the Chinese.
"We ended up making an incredible [trade] deal with China for tens of billions of product, $40 to $50 billion to the farmers. The most they ever spent was $14 or $16 [billion]," Trump said. "Now of course, the virus came along and I'm not happy. I'm not happy. I left them know I'm not happy.
"We had a very bad relationship with China, and then we had a good relationship because we made a great deal. But we're not happy. This is not a good thing that happened. It came out of China and we're not in a position where we're gonna say much yet."
It was reported Friday that the U.S. is investigating the origins of the coronavirus and whether it began in a Wuhan lab before infecting members of the general public and making its way around the globe.
Trump also talked about supply chains and indicated that he hopes the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic will see more U.S. companies using domestic suppliers.
"We're bringing supply chains back home, and we've learned a lot about supply chains," Trump said after referencing the masks and other personal protective equipment that's being manufactured in the U.S. for healthcare workers to use.
"We've learned that it's nice to make things in the U.S. I've been saying that for a long time. One of the reasons I ran for office [was] because we started making things everywhere but here. And if one thing comes out of this, more than anything else, is that we should make product in the United States. These supply chains, they sound wonderful, but if one country has a problem the whole chain is ruined."
