Piers Morgan: Glenn Beck 'Brave' for Acknowledging Divisiveness

CNN's Piers Morgan on Wednesday called conservative commentator Glenn Beck "brave" for acknowledging  his role in "helping tear the country apart."

Beck made the admission in an interview that aired Tuesday on Fox News Channel.

"I wish I could go back and be more uniting in my language, because I think I played a role in, unfortunately, in helping tear the country apart," Beck told Fox's "The Kelly File."

"Glenn Beck was quite brave, I thought, to say what he said," Morgan said during an interview with Ann Coulter on his show Wednesday.

Morgan acknowledged he's been guilty of divisiveness himself.

"I can tell that when I get over-angry and get a little bit abusive to the gun people that it actually doesn't help the debate," he said. "That actually all it does is intensify the polarization, and it means any kind of compromise becomes less likely."

Morgan told Coulter she was "the female Glenn Beck," and asked whether she had ever gone too far.

"No. Of course not," she responded.

She said it was impossible to agree or disagree with Beck's statement because he gave no specific examples of where he had gone too far.

Pressed by Morgan, Coulter said she had never said anything publicly on politics that she regrets.

She reiterated that she had not, "unless you're going to go back to when I was 14 and briefly I was a libertarian."

Earlier in the day, Fox News' "The Five" co-host Bob Beckel blasted Beck for saying on Kelly's show that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was like former Alabama Gov. George Wallace.

Beck had said Cuomo's comments that "extreme" conservatives shouldn't be involved in New York politics were like Wallace's telling Freedom Riders to stay out of Alabama during the civil-rights movement.

"That may be the most foolish, ridiculous, disgraceful — no wonder [he's] off of the TV," Beckel, the lone liberal on the panel, said of Beck.

"The Five" replaced Beck's show on Fox News in 2011.
