A wide majority of voters want recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to be allowed to stay in the U.S. and to apply for citizenship, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.
The survey's results:
- 77 percent say DACA recipients should be allowed to stay, compared to 7 percent who think they should be allowed to stay, but not apply for citizenship.
- 12 percent said they should be required to leave the U.S.
The program is for people who were brought to the U.S. as children by illegal immigrants.
President Donald Trump announced in September that the program would wind down.
The Quinnipiac poll surveyed 1,211 voters around the U.S. with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
