More and more, Americans are getting fed up with COVID-19 restrictions, and starting to make their feelings known, despite officials warning that they could be facing arrest.
A Toms River, NJ, woman, Kim Pagan, was charged by New Jersey State Police with violating Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy’s “stay at home” order and taking part in a protest in Trenton. She was handed a summons, not arrested, but faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for her protest actions.
New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal has said staying home and maintaining social distance "isn’t just the best advice to stay healthy, it’s the law. Make no mistake, we will do everything in our power to keep our residents and officers safe, and that means we won’t hesitate to file charges against violators.”
Pagan is an anti-lockdown protest organizer who drew a dozen carloads of protesters to demonstrate outside the Statehouse where Gov. Murphy was holding a press briefing inside. New Jersey has 81,000 confirmed Coronavirus cases and 4,070 deaths.
An NBC News and Wall Street Journal poll found that 60 per cent of Americans want restrictions to stay in place for the time being.
However, the protests have been growing nationwide, with demonstrators demanding to be allowed to return to their jobs and schools. Demonstrations have taken place in Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Utah, Kentucky, Florida, Minnesota and California.
Kentucky’s Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, said, "We do have some folks up here in Kentucky today, saying we should reopen Kentucky immediately, right now. Folks, that would kill people. It would absolutely kill people."
