Fox News host and correspondent Geraldo Rivera will host the 10 and 11 a.m. hours on WABC in Manhattan, according to The New York Times.
The station, which is one of the nation’s biggest, is owned by Cumulus Media, which acquired the station this year. The company is banking on the hope that Rivera’s stature will broaden the audience of the station, which is best known for having the conservative heavy hitters Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin.
Rivera will remain a weekend anchor and a correspondent on the Fox News Channel, but he will now have significantly more air time and a new perch in the Big Apple, where he started in journalism in 1970 at WABC-TV, formerly the sister station to WABC radio.
“What goes around has definitely come around,” he told the Times.
Rivera is a registered Republican, but he expresses liberal views on issues like immigration and abortion. He told
the Times that his show would have two slogans, both of which highlight his differences: “I’m Geraldo and I’m not always right” and “Not red, not blue, but red, white and blue.”
In a statement, the Fox News Chairman and Chief Executive Roger Ailes said Friday, “I don’t always agree with Geraldo; however, he’s a great broadcaster and a real talent. He’s fearless and sometimes even impresses you with his common sense.”
