Black Lives Matter and Daily Kos columnist Shaun King is accused of being white by a blogger who obtained his birth certificate, though he has long claimed to be biracial.
Conservative blogger Vicki Pate writes that although King claims to have a white mother and black father, the man listed on his birth certificate as his father, Jeffery Wayne King, is white. She produced a police mugshot of the man as well as a photo of Shaun King as a child with his mother, Kay.
The child in the photo has reddish curly hair. Shaun King today has closely cropped dark hair and dark facial hair.
King has been called out in the past for allegedly fabricating what he said was a racially motivated attack on him when he was a 15-year-old high school student in 1995. The
Daily Caller reported that King's claims of being severely beaten by a group of "racist" and "redneck" students in a "hate crime" incident didn't ring true.
The police report said King was attacked by only one student and that his injuries were "minor," the Caller reported. The incident also was not reported as racially motivated, according the website.
Pate also examined the report and found King's race listed as "white."
King received one of Oprah Winfrey's Morehouse College scholarships for black men, but says he did not lie on his application to receive the scholarship.
Photographs of two men reported to be King's brothers also appear to show white men, but King responded on Twitter Wednesday that all his siblings have different fathers and that the family's situation is complicated.
He also tweeted, "In essence, what is happening to me now, is like conservatives demanding Obama's long form birth certificate."
The allegations against King mirror the story of Rachel Dolezal, the former Spokane, Washington NAACP president who claimed to be biracial, but was outed by her white parents earlier this summer.
Despite evidence that she is white, Dolezal has since said she
still considers herself to be black.
