Economist Stephen Moore says Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is a "lunatic" for proposing to keep the city closed for another three months.
"That's lunatic to think that Los Angeles could ever come back from that," he told host John Catsimatidis during an interview on "The Cats Roundtable" AM 970 in New York.
"You do have some of these blue state mayors and blue state governors who are continuing with the lockdown. But overall, I feel that we're going to start to see a leveling off ... The worst economic news is starting to get behind us."
L.A. County will likely continue its stay-at-home order through the summer, officials said Tuesday.
County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer during a Board of Supervisors meeting said the order will be extended "with all certainty," possibly until July or August.
"Our hope is that by using the data we'd be able to slowly lift restrictions over the next three months," she said. "But without widely available therapeutic testing for the coronavirus or rapid at-home testing versions that would allow people to test themselves daily, it seems unlikely that restrictions would be completely eased."
Los Angeles County, which has 37,000-plus confirmed coronavirus cases and 1,793 deaths, has eased some restrictions and will adjust the city's stay-at-home order to allow more activities.
