America will never be able to test everyone for the coronavirus before opening up the U.S. economy again, and it will not be necessary to do so, according to President Donald Trump.

The task force is planning to have the U.S. ramp up its already world-class testing reach to underreported areas, including hard-hit minority communities that might have not sought to be tested, Trump told reporters at the coronavirus task force daily briefing Thursday.

"It's not necessary, but it would be a good thing to have," Trump said, before being asked if workers need to be tested in order to have confidence going back to work.

"We want to have it, and we're going to see if we have it," Trump told CNN's Jim Acosta. "Do you need it? No. Is it a nice thing to do? Yes."

Testing every American is implausible, he added.

"We're talking about 325 million people, and that's not going to happen, as you can imagine, and it would never happen with anyone else either," Trump added. "Other countries do it in a limited form. We'll probably be the leader of the pack."
