President Donald Trump got sweet revenge when the maker of Oreo cookies moved some of its manufacturing plants to Mexico — but it came at great personal sacrifice.
"He used to love Oreos but he really did stop eating them once they moved to Mexico," a former aide tells Axios.
The cookie crumbled for Trump after Mondelez International announced it would close some of its American Oreo factories and move production to Mexico.
That decision triggered a boycott in which protesters said their hands would no longer be caught in the cookie jar — at least one filled with Oreos.
The boycott also was supported by the powerhouse union AFL-CIO.
Trump has been highly critical of companies that have moved or plotted to relocate their plants across the border.
He recently threatened General Motors with a "big border tax" for importing some Chevrolet Cruze compact cars from a plant in Mexico.
