Millions of tweets hit Twitter during Sunday's Super Bowl, but Hillary Clinton, who leads in polls for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, tackled her foes at Fox News with a small message that got big hits.

The former first lady and secretary of state sent the tweet about two hours into the game in which the Seattle Seahawks overwhelmed Peyton Manning's Denver Broncos.

The tweet was retweeted more than 30,000 times before the game's fourth quarter, and by Monday morning, nearly 53,000 Twitter users had forwarded Clinton's barb.

Her press secretary, Nick Merrill, clarified in an email to USA Today  that Clinton's tweet was just a joke.

"It was good-natured, light-hearted, and self-depreciating," Merrill said.

But it also came after President Barack Obama gave a scathing interview to Fox before the network carried the game, in which he twice attacked the Fox News Channel for misinforming the public on issues that have bedeviled his presidency

The network has also been critical of Clinton and the State Department's response to the September 2012 terror attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
