"Daily Show" host Jon Stewart criticized Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, saying the official could be a little more angry that veterans have been put on
long "secret" waiting lists at VA hospitals.
In testimony before the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee last week, Shinseki somewhat meekly said he was
"mad as hell" about the situation.
Shinseki apologized to Senators when he made the statement, saying he would use stronger language, but didn't think it appropriate for the hearing.
Stewart said the scandal should elicit stronger language – or at least body movement. He suggested Shinseki might move his lips or face to show his anger.
"You're 'mad-as-hell' face looks a lot like your 'oh-we're-out-of-orange-juice face,'" Stewart said.
Stewart then played video of White House Chief of Staff Dennis McDonough telling CBS'
"Face the Nation" on Sunday, "The president is madder than hell, and, uh, I've got the scars to prove it."
But McDonough's story about how he got those scars isn't likely to impress veterans waiting to be treated, Stewart said.
"Oh, you lost a leg to an IED in Fallujah? Well, I got this when some spittle hit me in the eyebrow," Stewart mocked.
