Liberal commentator Van Jones appeared on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt's show, where the two entered a heated exchange over whether President-elect Donald Trump won thanks to support from white supremacists.

Democrats "have allowed a home for some of the most elitist, snobbiest, obnoxious, condescending people ever born in our party," said Jones, according to The Daily Caller, but Republicans "have also created a space for a bunch of bigots to come in the back door, and they won't admit it."

According to Jones, both parties have serious identity issues that haven't been addressed, and this led to Trump's surprise win over Hillary Clinton.

Hewitt claimed Jones' point was not "factually predicated."

Clinton's former campaign communications director Jennifer Palmieri accused the Trump campaign of giving a platform to white supremacists, during a post-election review at Harvard University.

"What percentage, what percentage do you believe of the Trump vote is white supremacist?" Hewitt asked Jones. "What percentage?"

Jones replied that the amount of "like outright, we hate black people" racists in the Republican Party is "probably less than 1 percent."

"It's way less than 1 percent," Hewitt added.

Jones accused the host of "doing exactly what the Democrats do" and dismissing a problem within the party.

"The 1 percent rule with the Democrats is a problem," Hewitt responded. "There are real Fidel lovers in your party. There aren't a real number of racists in our party…It goes to the moral compass of the parties. Mine is fine. Yours is broken."

"There are not 600,000 white racists in America," Hewitt continued. "They put on a party at the Reagan building, got 200 people, Van."

Hewitt ended the interview by inviting Jones to continue the conversation on his radio show another day.

"I love Van Jones," he concluded. "He's just wrong. He's just wrong, America."
