CANNES, France (AP) — Alfonso Cuaron has introduced a restoration of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Mexican filmmaker was notably absent from Cannes last year when his "Roma" was expected to premiere here. But when Netflix and the festival couldn't agree on distribution terms for the streaming giant's films, "Roma" instead headed to the Venice Film Festival where it won the Golden Lion.
This time, Cuaron helped debut a 4K restoration of Kubrick's 1980 horror masterpiece that was overseen by Steven Spielberg. In a premiere Friday night, Cuaron was joined by Kubrick's daughter, Katharina Kubrick, and Leon Vitali, Kubrick's longtime assistant.
Warner Bros. will release the restored "The Shining" on home video in October.
