The World Health Organization has no evidence the coronavirus was created in a Wuhan laboratory, according to China’s foreign ministry.

Spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters during a daily briefing in Beijing on Thursday that WHO officials “have said multiple times there is no evidence the new coronavirus was created in a laboratory," Reuters reports.

President Donald Trump has been critical of how WHO has handled the outbreak of COVID-19. The president has accused WHO of being “China-centric" and on Tuesday instructed his administration to halt funding.

Over the past several days, reports that the virus may have originated from a laboratory conducting risky studies on coronaviruses in bats have been circulating.

President Trump told Fox News’ John Roberts the administration is doing a “very thorough examination of this horrible situation” on Wednesday.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also told Fox News the government “is working diligently” to find out where the virus came from.
