What did Obama’s then-Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel famously say? "Never let a serious crisis go to waste.”
It's cynical, but President Obama seems to be employing that very strategy in the aftermath of Dallas.
While calling the police killings "a vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement," [all applaud] — he then turned his sights on gun owners.
"We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons, unfortunately it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic, and in the days ahead we're going to have to consider those realities as well," Obama said.
Now should not be the time to finger point or score political agenda points.
Five hero cops just died in the line of duty. Their families are suffering. We are suffering.
While I strongly disagree that gun control could have prevented this, I think in the coming days and weeks it should be discussed, as well as how after eight years of Obama the nation is more racially divided than ever.
While we are at it, let’s ask why black economic empowerment — and horrific black youth unemployment numbers — are so bad after Obamanomics.
Until then, let’s stand with our fallen heroes in Dallas.
