Democrats should thank their lucky stars that 28-year-old socialist and media star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is too young to run for president in 2020.
Running as a Democrat, she shocked the Democratic establishment by toppling Democrat veteran Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th congressional majority minority district.
Her platform includes open borders, elimination of the Department of Homeland Security, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) and giving Americans all kinds of “free stuff” in education and healthcare.
She might be the so-called “fresh face” that a Rasmussen Report poll says 73 percent of Democrats are looking for in 2020.
The problem is that in 2020 she will only be 30 years old and the Constitution requires that a president be at least 35.
If you want to know how disgusting Democrat and progressive lap dogging to appease the open borders, give-a-way, illegal immigrant far left constituency Ocasio-Cortez represents has become, just take a look at how Democrats are moving to placate them.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has pardoned seven illegal immigrants facing deportation saying that, “New York stands firm in our belief that our diversity is our greatest strength…we will protect our immigrant communities…” He and many prominent Democrats make no distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. They apparently believe that legal immigrants who earned their citizenship the hard and legal way are fools.
And then we have what is becoming to be known as “Stinky” San Francisco. It is moving to allow illegal immigrants to vote in school board elections. That is only the first step. Now we know why so many progressives want open borders — thousands and maybe millions of new voters for their side!
Democrat 2020 wannabees had better learn that they can’t out-socialist a socialist unless they adopt their agenda.
Is anyone going to ask Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Cory Booker, D-N.J., or Kamala Harris, D-Ca. if they are willing to: reject capitalism; advocate open borders; guarantee free healthcare and free public college education for all; eliminate the Office of Homeland Security and abolish ICE; and, risk turning the United States into Venezuela?
Given the lack of basic values and principles that appears to characterize many Washington politicians, if that is what it takes to become president they will comply.
These and other white and black Democrats and progressives pandering to the extreme left might just get more than they bargained for. The dynasties and virtual lifetime jobs of many mainstream white and black Democrat representatives in local, state, and federal elective offices might just come to an end.
Why vote for the liberal Democrat supporting a socialist agenda when you can vote for the real thing?
Voters in New York’s 14th congressional district, when given a choice between veteran establishment icon John Crowley and socialist Hispanic challenger, Ocasio-Cortez, chose the socialist.
The question is whether a Hispanic or black candidate espousing the same or similar views as Ocasio-Cortez can defeat a Hispanic or black traditional Democrat in such a district. If so, few members of the Congressional Black Caucus will be safe from defeat.
We will soon find out in St. Louis’s 1st congressional district. If the Ocasio-Cortez magic can be transferred to a black challenger of a traditional long term black Democrat.
Ocasio-Cortez has been campaigning for Cori Bush, a black Democrat who is running to unseat the undefeated William Lacy Clay, (D-Mo)., who has held his seat in Missouri's 1st congressional district for seventeen years. He took over from his father who held it from 1969 to 2001.
Like Ocasio-Cortez, Bush is a Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., disciple. She is also an ordained minister, nurse, and very much an outsider advocating free public college education and Medicare for all.
If she is able to defeat the Clay dynasty, it would be an even bigger upset than Ocasio-Cortez’s in New York.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Ca., played down Ocasio-Cortez’s victory saying, “Each of our members is elected to be the independent representative of their district…So nobody’s district is representative of somebody’s else district.”
If Bush pulls off the second earthquake upset of the year, Pelosi will have to change her tune. No traditional black or white Democrat in a majority-minority congressional district will assume victory.
