About 15 years ago, I went to see the Basilica of Saint-Denis, a legendary cathedral in northeast Paris where all the kings of France are buried.
After satisfying my cultural needs, I decided to walk around to get a feel for the neighborhood. What I discovered was shocking — the village of Saint-Denis could have been a section of Algiers. I was the only westerner, and it was obvious right away that my presence was not at all welcome.
According to Andrew Malone in The Daily Mail, there are 600,000 Muslims from North African or sub-Saharan African backgrounds living in Saint-Denis. Malone estimates that up to 300,000 are illegal immigrants, many of whom rely on crime or the "black economy"to make money.]
Violence has become commonplace. I was staying near Notre Dame in 2015 when Muslim extremists from Saint-Denis embarked on a trail of carnage in which 135 people were killed at a nightclub not far from my hotel.
"It's clear to me," Malone says, "that the area is already lost to France — to the rule of French law, equality, religious freedom, and even access to the streets by the police themselves. Indeed, this is a parallel state — a state within a state, with its own rules and religious courts — where allegiance to Islam comes ahead of fealty to France.”
Around the time that I was visiting Saint-Denis, Mark Steyn was publishing America Alone: The End of the World As We Know It, in which he predicted the takeover of Europe by Islamic immigrants. What I have described in France is happening all over Europe, as "compassionate" governments allow millions of immigrants from the Third World to invade their countries.
Belgium, Sweden, the U.K., Holland, Denmark and Germany will never be the same. Muslim immigrants, refusing to assimilate, are destroying European culture and customs and wreaking havoc with an onslaught of violence.
The lesson to be learned is that mass, uncontrolled immigration of people who refuse to assimilate can be suicidal to the host country. Instead of benefiting from Europe's experience, the U.S. seems to be heading down the same catastrophic path.
Biden has opened the border to millions of low-skilled, uneducated illegal aliens from all over the world, many of whom are criminals, terrorists, and people infected with COVID. Most of them don't speak English, show little desire to assimilate, and entertain a ravenous appetite for the goodies we are forced to provide at taxpayer expense. This is on top of an estimated 20 million-30 million illegals already in the U.S.
Under the Obama administration, thousands of Muslim immigrants from the Middle East and Africa were dropped into small towns across the U.S. In a repeat of what happened to Saint-Denis, "no-go zones"have been created in Dearborn, Michigan, and other American communities that are not capable of dealing with the demands of a hostile Third World invasion.
The process is underway in such unlikely places as Lewiston, Maine; Shelbyville, Tennessee; St. Cloud, Minnesota; Clarkston, Georgia; and Jamestown, North Dakota. Trump understood the threat and tried to put a stop to it. To our detriment, Biden intends to continue Obama's policy of importing Muslims who refuse to assimilate.
According to a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies, the Biden administration is using a disturbing new policy called "catch-and-bus."Illegal immigrants caught at the U.S.-Mexico border are being bussed from Texas, Arizona, and California directly into America's heartland. How will you cope when Biden sends a few thousand unskilled, functional illiterates — and the surge in crime that comes with them — to your town?
Biden's magnanimous immigration policy is not based on compassion. He is selling us out in the belief that most new Americans will vote Democratic. If Biden is correct, we can kiss the two-party system goodbye in favor of a Democratic Party-controlled oligarchy.
The argument in favor of unrestricted immigration is that we are a country of immigrants. While that is true, the current situation is very different from anything we have faced in the past. Historically, immigrants did not arrive on our shores with the intention of destroying our values and our civilization.
On the contrary, they wanted to become Americanized. They wanted to speak English and to "fit in." They wanted their children to be Americans. None of this seems to apply to the current crop of immigrants.
Instead of assimilating and adopting American values as past immigrants did, today's immigrants want to impose their values on us. As they accept generous welfare payments, free housing, free healthcare and free education, they want us to assimilate. They are creating American equivalents of Saint-Denis — will we cope any better than France?
Mark Steyn summed up the challenge: "Our children may well spend their adult years in an ugly and savage world unless we decide that who and what we are is worth defending."
The U.S. has an advantage, Steyn says, in that Europe is ahead in the line. Its fate may wake us up on this side of the Atlantic before it is too late. For the sake of our children, let's hope it does. The selection of Biden/Harris would indicate otherwise.
