By    |   Thursday, 26 May 2016 06:20 PM EDT

The best probiotic yogurt involves the healthiest benefits along with flavor from natural ingredients.

Finding a "best probiotic yogurt" might depend on personal choice or needs.

Greek probiotic yogurts are often listed among the best for their high-protein value, low-sugar content, and creamier texture. The Maia brand is one that has been getting superior reviews as the best probiotic yogurt.

ALERT: Weird Gut Bacteria Linked to Digestion, Heart, Obesity, Brain Problems

Maia Greek yogurt provides nonfat and low-fat products that are made organically from grass-fed cow milk and real fruit, according to Medical Daily. The yogurt contains “billions of live active probiotic bacteria” along with prebiotic fiber and high amounts of protein. The low-fat options have about 2 to 4 grams of sugar.

Richer varieties include Maia strawberry Greek yogurt, which has 120 calories, 14 grams of sugar, and 11 grams of protein. It’s also boosted with 25 percent of the recommended daily allowance of calcium.

Competing brands include Greek Corner Muller with strawberry, which has 150 calories and 21 grams of sugar, and Fage Total strawberry with 170 calories, 16 grams of sugar, and 10 percent of the RDA for calcium.

Whole Foods stopped its relationship with genetically modified brands to include organic Maia brands, Medical Daily reports.

Maia is “very minimally sweetened, with fruit purees,” according to Levana’s Whole Foods Kitchen. “The flavored yogurt is a scant and unprecedented 110 calories per six-ounce serving. Delicious.”

Maia's Greek vanilla bean yogurt scores a 91 out of 100 with "The Supermarket Guru" Phil Lempert, based on factors such as taste, nutrition, and ingredients.

“The zero fat Greek yogurt has just the right amount of vanilla to make it special without masking the Greek yogurt flavor,” Lempert says.

However, the best probiotic yogurt may depend on what you desire for health.

In its 25 best yogurts for weight loss, Eat This, Not That! ranks Siggi’s Icelandic-style nonfat vanilla yogurt at the top of the list. The 5.3-ounce cup contains 100 calories, zero fat, 9 grams of sugar, and 14 grams of protein.

Woman’s Day lists Stonyfield's low-fat plain yogurt among its six best probiotic yogurts to buy at the grocery store. The organic product is rich, creamy, and 99 percent fat free, and it has six live, active cultures.

Chobani's 2 percent strawberry banana and Oikos' traditional plain are among the healthiest yogurts with live and active cultures, according to "The Dr. Oz Show."
