Children's books and media featuring same-sex parents are growing in popularity as society becomes more accepting of gay and lesbian couples.

In 2014, the popular kids program "Good Luck Charlie" on the Disney Channel showcased a lesbian couple, but some books targeting even younger kids expose babies and toddlers early on to different types of families before they even know the alphabet.

Here are six children’s books featuring same-sex couples:

Vote Now: Should Gay Marriage Be Legal in All 50 States?

1. "Mommy, Mama, and Me" and "Daddy, Papa, and Me"
Both children’s stories are by Leslea Newman and share a story of a child going about his typical day with the help of his gay parents through a nursery rhyme style.

2. "ABC: A Family Alphabet Book"
This book by Bobbie Combs is used to help teach the alphabet as the story provides an example of a typical activity or place that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Same-sex couples are depicted doing things like baking cookies and visiting the aquarium.

3. "The Different Dragon"
Noah has one of his moms tell him a bedtime story in this picture book by Jennifer Bryan. His mother Go-Ma describes a tale about Noah and his cat Diva on the high seas teaching a dragon that is sad about having to be scary all the time how to be "regular" by playing badminton and eating ice cream.

4. "The Purim Superhero"
Nate’s friends want to dress up as superheroes for the Jewish holiday known as Purim, but Nate had a different idea. His gay fathers explain to him the meaning of the celebration and help him with the costume. The boy learns about the power he has when he does something he thinks is important and reflects his individuality in this book by Elisabeth Kushner.

5. "This Is My Family: A First Look at Same-Sex Parents"
In this first-person story told through the eyes of a child, readers see discussion of same-sex marriage from the perspective of a youngster. Supplemented by colorful pages, Pat Thomas’ thoughtful text about interacting with children, parents, and teachers is aimed toward children of LGBT parents and their friends.

6. "The Baby Kangaroo Treasure Hunt, a Gay Parenting Story"
This tale by Carme Martinez-Jover aims to provide gay couples a fun way for their children to easily understand from where they came. The gay kangaroo couple Jack and Sam are described as having a baby through an egg donor and surrogacy.
