10 Best Diet Tips for Couples

Monday, 31 January 2011 10:14 AM EST

Weight loss isn’t usually easy, but dieting as a couple can be much easier than dieting alone. If you are considering dieting with your partner, there are considerable advantages of a couple’s diet plan. Once you realize the advantages couples have while dieting together, and if you take the initiative to follow these health tips for couples, you and your partner will be one step closer to meeting your couple's weight loss goal.

1. Team up: Teaming up by dieting as a couple may be the first step towards winning the battle against obesity. There is a satisfaction to knowing there is someone beside you who is in a similar state. It makes the dieting path far simpler to tread.
2. Set goals: Once you team up for a couple’s diet plan, chart out your weight loss journey together. Weight loss is partly connected to awareness. Both you and your partner should do extensive food-related research together and set goals accordingly.
3. Switch to a healthy breakfast: If you are eating breakfast with your partner, try to set an example by switching to a healthy breakfast like cereals, or milk and nuts. Healthy alternatives are not always unappetizing and by making a change yourself, you are more likely to push your partner into eating healthy as well.
4. Set an exercise regimen: Exercise can be a routine chore, but when you have your partner to exercise with, it may not seem as boring. Hit the gym together or work towards picking up some athletic activities like hiking, cycling, camping, or simply enjoying a walk together at the end of the day.
5. Healthy munching: Find a healthy snack both you and your partner would love to munch on! Substitute regular potato chips with low-fat, baked versions, or whole grain tortillas. Try eating healthy snacks like baggies of pre-sliced fruits and veggies whenever either of you has a craving.
6. Try innovative low-calorie recipes: Diet solutions for couples can also include searching cooking books with interesting low-calorie food recipes or searching the web together to dig up diet recipes that both of you like. Experiment with these recipes and enjoy nutritious meals as well.
7. Grocery shopping: Shopping for groceries can play a major role in a couple’s weight loss program. When you take your partner along for grocery shopping, both of you can mutually decide on healthy low-calorie food options.
8. Drink water and herbal tea: For a successful couple’s diet plan, it is important to get rid of aerated soft drinks. Whenever either of you is thirsty, try drinking flavored sparkling water or herbal tea which is available in several flavors like organic green, chamomile, lemon, mint, etc.
9. Conscious dining: Couples diet better together when they are conscious of their eating habits, especially when eating out. When eating out, order a child-sized entree instead of a regular entree to cut calories and keep your portions reasonable. Restaurants are aware of this lifestyle change and there are plenty of restaurants that offer delicious low-calorie, low-fat choices on their menus.
10. Commitment: Once you commit to yourself and your partner your couple’s diet plan will continue smoothly. By extending extra support to your partner, both physically and emotionally, you can ensure your weight loss journey doesn’t come to a standstill.
