In his most recent book, “You and me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity,” Francis Chan gives readers a glimpse into what the union of marriage means for him.
As to be expected, Chan gives credit for his philosophies on marriage to God and Jesus.
On the book’s promotional website, he states that, “Marriage is great, but it’s not forever. It’s until death do us part. Then come eternal rewards or regrets depending on how we spent our lives.”
He further states that, “Jesus was right. We have it all backwards. The way to have a great marriage is by not focusing on marriage.”

Chan has plenty to say on the subject of marriage and family. So, what are some of his thoughts that may serve as an inspiration for others? Here are some quotes excerpted from his books.
1. “Nothing compares to being truly, exuberantly wanted by your children.”
2. “If a guy were dating my daughter but didn't want to spend the gas money to come pick her up or refused to buy her dinner because it cost too much, I would question whether he were really in love with her. In the same way, I question whether many American churchgoers are really in love with God because they are so hesitant to do anything for Him."
3. “Because when you’re wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.”
4. “Marriage is one of the most humbling, sanctifying journeys you will ever be a part of. It forces us to wrestle with our selfishness and pride. But it also gives us a platform to display love and commitment.”
5. “Again, our marriage problems are not really marriage problems. They are heart problems. They are God problems. Our lack of intimacy with God causes a void that we try to fill with the frailest of substitutes. Like wealth or pleasure. Like fame or respect. Like people. Like marriage.”

6. “For those of us who nurture a win-at-any-cost mentality, this verse should shake us to the core. Only a fool would sacrifice this much for any victory. Let this sink into your brain: God actively fights against the proud person. The pride required to win your argument and defeat your 'enemy’ provides you with a new opponent: God.”
7. “Through this experience, I came to understand that my desire for my children is only a faint echo of God’s great love for me and for every person He made. I am just an earthly, sinful father, and I love my kids so much it hurts. How could I not trust a heavenly, perfect Father who loves me infinitely more than I will ever love my kids?”
8. “Has your relationship with God changed the way you live your life?”
9. “True faith means holding nothing back. It means putting every hope in God's fidelity to His Promises.”
10. “From start to finish, this movie is obviously about God. He is the main character. How is it possible that we live as though it is about us?”
