Georgia has some of the country's most lenient gun control laws and enacted a law over the summer — dubbed the "guns everywhere" law — that allows firearms to be carried anywhere, including airports, classrooms, houses of worship, and government buildings. But how does this new legislation compare on a national level?
Since the Newtown shootings in 2012, national statistics show 64 laws have been enacted that strengthen state gun regulations have been enacted as compared to 70 that have weakened them. In addition, there are 38 new gun laws that have a minimal impact on gun violence,
according to Smart Gun Laws.

According to the report, eight of the states that passed laws to strengthen gun regulations could be considered significant changes, while only four states passed laws that weaken gun control.
Georgia's neighboring South Carolina enacted new laws in 2014 that allow carry permit holders to carry firearms into bars, and those with concealed carry permits to transport weapons either beneath a seat or in an open storage container.
In comparison, gun owners in Florida have nicknamed their state the "Gunshine State,” because of the state’s limited gun control laws and the high volume of concealed weapon permits issued to gun owners.
The Crime Prevention Research Center reports that Florida has issued more concealed carry permits than any other state.
