Girls With Guns: What Not to Wear at the Range

By    |   Tuesday, 31 March 2015 03:39 PM EDT

If you're a new gun owner, going to the range to practice will hopefully be something you make into a healthy habit. Shooting is a perishable skill for girls with guns and the old adage is true: If you don't use it, you lose it. What you wear to the range says a lot about how seriously you take your training.

Wearing a low cut or even semi-low cut shirt could be a decision you soon regret. When casings are ejected from either yours or your neighbor's firearm, they are extremely hot and capable of causing at least a first degree burn.

Unfortunately, a woman's cleavage seems to be the perfect landing spot for many a hot casing. Wear something with a higher neck while shooting.

Plenty of girls with guns are perfectly capable going about their daily lives in high heels, and still others prefer open-toed shoes or flip flops. However, a gun range is not the place for any of these.

Depending upon how busy the range is, there could be hundreds of spent casings laying on the floor, and even in flat shoes, it's not uncommon to slip on them from time to time. Because they can remain very hot for a few minutes after they've been ejected, wear closed, flat shoes to avoid burns to your feet.

If you wear artificial nails, these can be an inconvenient or even dangerous obstacle. It can make loading a magazine and manipulating the slide of a semi-automatic pistol extremely awkward.

Artificial nails can also make drawing from a holster unsafe, and they may get in the way of inserting your finger into the trigger guard when you are ready to fire. Keep them a conservative length or avoid them altogether.
