Much has been made of scientists whose research shows that our understanding of human caused global warming is fake.

ALERT: Is Global Warming a Hoax? Vote Now

An online petition (PetitionProject.org) garnered some 31,000 signatures from people self-identifying as “scientists” who opposed the idea of energy rationing proposed by the Kyoto Treaty — or any “similar proposals.” The petition stated, “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere.”

While the petition garnered a lot of signatures from people who believe human-caused global warming is fake, some say the people who signed the petition were not qualified to make such a statement. The OSS Foundation pointed out that only a small percentage of the signatures on the petition were from people who had a background in climate science. Most were from engineers or doctors of medicine.

There are, however, some leaders in the field of climate science who do believe warming of the atmosphere is either not as significant as many believe, or simply caused by factors other than human action. Below is a short list of some of these scientists and their research:

VOTE NOW: Are You Concerned About Global Warming?

Sallie Baliunas. This astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics has openly disputed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports on the human causes of global warming. She has suggested that corrective action against CO2 output is not necessary.

Willie Soon. Astrophysicist whose work with Baliunas as the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics has suggested that the sun has more of an effect on climate change than any other factors, including human activity.

David Douglass. He argues that the volcanic eruption of Mount Pinatubo has been an underestimated force in global warming.

David Legates. The director of the University of Delaware Center for Climatic Research gave testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works that global warming is nothing new. He said, "climate variability has been a natural occurrence, and especially so over the last millennium.”

William Happer. The Princeton University professor of physics at believes that CO2 increases may actually be good for man.

Fred Singer. The professor emeritus of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia appeared in the documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle." Singer told The Telegraph that there is no evidence that the increase in CO2 levels in the atmosphere have contributed to global warming.

George H. Taylor. The retired director of the Oregon Climate Service at Oregon State University says he believes the effect of greenhouse gases in minor and not significant enough to lead to legislation to reduce emissions.
