There is growing evidence that green tea may help those who suffer from arthritis joint pain.
A 2007
University of Michigan study showed compounds found in green tea had a strong anti-inflammatory impact that served to inhibit joint destruction. The study was presented to the Experimental Biology 2007 conference, held that year in Washington, D.C.

Noted the university in a news release about the study: "Researchers found that the compound — called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) — inhibited the production of several molecules in the immune system that contribute to inflammation and joint damage in people with rheumatoid arthritis," said the university in a news release about the study.
Additional studies have shown the benefits of green and other teas thanks to polyphenols found in tea plants.

Scientists at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland found that the substance EGCG, which is active in green tea, "may halt arthritis progression by blocking interleukin-1, a pro-inflammatory cell, from damaging cartilage,"
The Arthritis Foundation said.
“Tea drinking boosts T cells’ ability to react against bacterial and viral infections,” Dr. Jack F. Bukowski, a rheumatologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, told the Foundation. “I suspect this is good for people with rheumatoid arthritis, who are taking immunosuppressive medications that make them more susceptible to infection."
