Indiana ranks number 24 in a 2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo.

Here are five spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of Indiana:

1. Family Indoor Shooting Range: Located in Indianapolis, this gun range provides pistol and rifle shooting year round. They have six shooting lanes with plated steel panels for safety. The range does not allow centerfire rifle calibers or high powered rifles. It does rent pistols. Children are allowed on the range.

"Pleasant experience, friendly behind the counter, as well as the people I shot with in the range," writes a reviewer on Google.

2. Midwest Gun & Range: Located in Elkhart, this gun range offers indoor shooting, a lounge area for breaks and a ventilation system that keeps the air clear. The gun range is attached to a store. It offers free days for female shooters and several training classes. The range allows all pistols and rifles up to .308, as well as air guns and shotguns, but not black powder firearms.

"I am a woman and amateur shooter," writes a reviewer on Google. "They answered all my dumb questions, and treated me with respect."

3. Applied Ballistics: Located in Lafayette, this 25 yard range has five shooting lanes. Some days are restricted to pistol shooting and others for rifles. Handguns and rifles are available for rent. Active military are offered a discount.

"They are the nicest gun range people I've met," writes a reviewer on Google. "They show me how to fire a gun correctly ... I love the fact that shooting lanes are separated by safety lanes in between."

4. Atterbury Shooting Complex: Located in Edinburgh, just south of Indianapolis, this range provides the opportunity for pistol and rifle shooting. They also offer clay target shotgun shooting and skeet. The rifle shooting range has 50 and 100 yard portable targets.

"This is the best range I have ever shot at. I'm tuning reloads for my rifle for deer season and the 100 yard range is excellent," writes a reviewer on Google.

They also have a concealed carry class and hosts Defensive Pistol Matches. They also have a Fire Arms Training Simulator, which allows new shooters to get a feel of what it's like using a pistol on a gun modified to shoot a laser.

"I loved this place. I've been to a few bigger/nicer places, but nothing can compare to this one," writes a reviewer on Google. "The people are friendly and helpful. They gave me six targets for free."

6. Hillside Shooting Sports: Located in Roanoke, this shooting range offers both indoor and outdoor shooting opportunities. They have an outdoor pistol and rifle range and a 12 lane indoor pistol range. They provide a gunsmith service and many classes and competitions.

"I agree with other reviews that they went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable with the gun in the store and at the range, going above and beyond my expectations," writes a reviewer on Google.
