Maine ranks number 32 in a
2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo. The state's score of 39 out of 50 is affected by its "duty to retreat" status. Scores were compiled based on right to carry laws, restrictions on sporting rifles, National Firearms Act rights, the Castle Doctrine and a miscellaneous category.
Here are six spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of Maine:

Top Gun of Maine: Located in Poland, this premier indoor shooting range and gun shop offers an "over-engineered safety barricade allows spectators to watch safely and participate in the fun." Active law enforcement and military receive a 20 percent discount.
"I am new to target shooting and I LOVE going here to practice on aim and accuracy. I don't know his name, but the guy who sells the ammo, guns, and other materials is a gentleman and funny too. He makes it all the worthwhile to come back," writes a reviewer on Yelp.

Maine Military Supply: Located in Holden, this large military and outdoor supply store has added a firing range with "an ADA gun lane, a training facility for gun safety as well as a dedicated gunsmith room." Consumers have the choice to pay by the hour or purchase a yearly membership and gun rentals are available.
"America! The only thing that would make this place better is a bacon stand!" writes a reviewer on Facebook.

Weaponcraft: Located in Saco, this 14,000 square foot facility boasts a 6,000 square foot Force-On-Force Simunition training area. Weaponcraft "believes that the security of a nation is predicated on the security of the common citizen and the security of our communities."
"Taking the handgun 1 course with Weaponcraft was an amazing experience. While I have been exposed to both handguns and rifles, and was a frequent user of both, it wasn't until taking this class that I actually felt comfortable with them," writes a reviewer on Facebook.

Maine Outdoor Sportsman: Located in Northport, this hunting, fishing, archery and camping outfitter also offers an outdoor gun range with 20, 50, 100 and 150 yard targets. The facility also has a 3-D archery range with 30 McKenzie targets on 30 acres.
"Thank you for helping to keep the tradition of the outdoors alive in Maine. Also I took my hunter safety and concealed carry course at your location, and I want to say thank you for having these," writes a reviewer on Facebook.

North Berwick Rod & Gun Club: This facility is located on over 12 acres and includes a 100-yard outdoor shooting range with "four covered bullet traps located at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards, with six covered shooting stationsn." The club also features an archery range is a member of the Maine Bow Hunter's League.
"Completed the WOT today and was very impressed with the professionalism and extensive education. I love the club and want to become a member!!!" writes a reviewer on Facebook.

Scarborough Fish and Game Association: This organization offers everything from archery and IDPA pistol ranges to sporting clays, wobble trap and an indoor range. NRA certified instruction classes include basic safety, hunter safety, personal protection and range safety officer training.
"Great place! Visited there while on vacation and they made my daughter and myself feel right at home. Great targets with real well throughout course. Loved the trampoline shots! Price was very reasonable and the facilities top notch. I will be returning and would suggest it to anyone," writes a poster on a clay targets forum.
