Gun Ranges in Utah: 5 Spots for Firearms and Pistol Practice

Gun range activities in Utah are available for pistol, rifle and other firearm shooting. Ranked number 4 in a 2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo, "open carry is legal in Utah."

Here are five spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of Utah:

1. The Gun Vault: Located in South Jordan, UT, this 25-yard pistol and rifle range has 15 lanes with state-of-the-art ventilation for heating and cooling and high-tech lighting. There is also an observation area in the lounge. The 7,000-square-foot showroom offers rentals and purchases in the combined 25,000-square-foot gun store and range.

"These guys are awesome," writes a reviewer on Yellow Pages. "Nothing but honest. They have always treated me well."

2. Lee Kay Center for Hunter Education: Located in Salt Lake City, ranges at the center include targets, picnic pavilions and snack areas. A pistol and muzzle loader range has a 50 yard distance. The rifle range has distances of 100 and 200 yards. Trap and skeet shooting areas include a skeet line with 12 firing points and four trap towers.

"Great place to spend a lunch hour," writes a reviewer on Yelp. "It's a fun place to go. Just bring your own gun, ammo and safety wear."

3. Bountiful Lions Club Rifle Range: Located in Bountiful, this range is open to the public with additional fees for the range and events, and no membership fees. There is a 25-yard outdoor pistol range. The outdoor rifle range has distances of 25, 50, 100 and 200 yards. Trap shooting is available on scheduled days. Three of the trap fields have lights.

"Went to the range for the first time over the weekend. For the majority of the time, it was just us at the pistol range," writes a reviewer on Google Plus. "It was great. The staff member was very friendly and I look forward to going back."

4. Doug's Shoot'n Sports: The indoor shooting range located in Salt Lake City has 12 lanes with each having their own target system placed out to 25 yards. The first establishment in Utah to combine a gun store and shooting range, it has a selection of guns and ammo, as well as shooting and concealed carry classes.

"I had a great experience," writes a reviewer on Yellow Pages. "I did not feel like just a number in line. They took the time to show me how to hold the gun and how it should feel in my hand. It was nice that they had an in-house range and easy to rent a gun so I could get a feel how the different guns felt." 

5. Rangemasters of Utah: The indoor shooting range includes located in Springville has 11 pistol lanes, two high-powered rifle lanes, and three pop-up interactive lanes. Gun rentals are available for rifles, handguns, shotguns and automatic machine guns. Sales and supplies are also offered.

"Very knowledgeable and super friendly," writes a reviewer on Google. "I started shooting here as a college student and even as I've moved away from the area, I have maintained my membership and I drive the extra distance to shoot and purchase firearms here."
