Gun Ranges in Virginia: 5 Spots for Firearms and Pistol Practice

Virginia gun owners have many unique gun ranges to choose from and enjoy. Large or small, the establishments offer a variety of ways to practice using firearms and pistols.

Here are five spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of Virginia:

1. NRA Headquarters Range: The basement of the NRA headquarters has one of the most technically advanced indoor shooting ranges in the country. Located in Fairfax, the 15-position range is open to the public, both members and non-members, and offers shooting for pistols and shotguns with shooting distances of up to 50 yards. The headquarters also offers shooting events and activities, including training courses and clinics.

"Hands down best staff and indoor range — pistol or rifle, trust in this range!" writes a reviewer on Yelp. "Follow the rules and smile! Always brightly lit and perfectly kept! I've met the best-trained and nicest Range Safety Officers/Range technicians, are all here! Don't be afraid to ask for help, just keep the gun pointed down range inside the booth at all times and one of their staff will help you immediately! A+"

2. Superior Pawn & Gun: Along with a showroom of firearms, accessories and ammo, the Superior Pawn & Gun Virginia Beach location on Lishelle Place has an indoor shooting range for rifles, pistols and shotguns. Instructions and courses for concealed handgun permits are also offered.

"I'm new to shooting at a gun range and the staff has been very helpful every time I've been there and have given me advice on which gun to rent, so I can eventually buy one of my own," writes a reviewer on Facebook.

3. Bull Run Regional Park Shooting Center: Located in Centreville, this facility has five different shotgun games for new and experienced shooters for sporting clay, skeet and trap shooting. Rental guns are available. There is also a 20-yard indoor target archery range with 18 shooting lanes, which customers can rent for an hour. Archery instruction is available.

"Bull Run is an excellent shooting facility to visit if you want to do some shotgun shooting or archery," writes a Yelp reviewer. "I visited to shoot sporting clay and had a blast doing so … The sporting clay course has 14 shooting stations that offer a wide variety of challenging birds to shoot at. It's great because it simulates live bird shooting in a very real way."

4. Colonial Shooting Academy: Located in Richmon, the academy has a popular range along with gun rentals and a gun store. Instruction and training are also available. There are rates for members and non-members. The establishment boasts of being the largest indoor shooting facility in the country.

"One of a kind, 5-star range," writes a reviewer on TripAdvisor. Along with the "51 lanes, great store and sandwich shop!"

5. Blue Ridge Arsenal Indoor Target Range: The range has 20 shooting positions at 25 yards, accommodating handguns and 12-gauge shotguns. Located in Chantilly,  Blue Ridge also has a full line of items at its shooting sports store.

"Went to this store to buy personal protection. The staff was friendly and helpful," writes a reviewer at Yellow Pages. "Everything was handled professionally. Their firing range is clean and well ordered. I saw a lot of police officers come in and out of the place while I was there. Seems like a very good store and I will be going back again. I would recommend it."
