Choosing a firearm that’s best for you often involves a good deal of research, advice, and in-person handling. Other gun owners will readily voice their opinions, but in the end it will be you selecting the brand, the model and the caliber and the firearm will be locked up in your gun safe, so choose wisely. If you’re not sure what Benelli model is best for you, consider these tips to choosing your next firearm.

First, take into consideration what you will be using the gun for. A shotgun used for duck hunting will often differ from one used to hunt larger game. For example, the Super Vinci was named one of the top shotguns for water fowlers by Wild Fowl Magazine, but Off The Grid News labeled the R1 one of the 10 best hunting rifles.

After a preferred type of firearm is selected, choose from a pump action, break action, or semi-automatic.Benelli has a selection of semi-automatic rifles, including the popular ARGO E; semi-automatic shotguns like the Montefeltro; and pump-action shotguns that include the Nova and SuperNova. Semi-automatic guns shoot quickly and offer less recoil, while pump-actions are less expensive and renowned for reliability. Break action shotguns like the 828U have dual barrels and are often regarded as the safest option due to the open action.

Next, choose what gauge of shotgun you want. Most Benelli models come in 12, 20, or 28-gauge. The larger the gauge number, the smaller the shell size. The Super Black Eagle II is a 12-gauge shotgun rated as one of the top 10 shotguns in 2014 by Outdoor Life, while the M2 is one of Benelli’s popular 20-gauge. The Legacy and Raffaello Crio are the two 28-gauge options.

Size will also be a factor when choosing a Benelli firearm. Barrel length ranges from 18.5-inch on the M4 to 30-inch on the Vinci Cordoba. Different barrel lengths are often preferred for different kinds of shooting. Target shooters often choose longer barrels while shorter, lighter barrels are more convenient for hunters hiking through the woods.

Finding the right fit is equally important. If the gun doesn’t mount well to your shoulder, recoil will be felt more acutely. Fortunately, several Benelli guns not only utilize their ComforTech recoil reduction system, but have an adjustable buttstock, too. The QuadraFit system allows easy adjustment of drop, cast, comb height, and length of pull. The Vinci, Super Vinci, Cordoba and SuperSport shotguns all have the adjustable buttstock.

The best way to choose the Benelli firearm that’s best for you is to locate a reputable dealer, ask questions, and try a few models out in person to ensure you end up with the ideal gun.
