Like other states, California has laws regarding which animals you can hunt, when you can hunt them, and in which geographic regions.
There are several months in which hunters are allowed to hunt an animal, such as deer, and within that time frame are mini-seasons consisting of a few days or weeks or as much as a couple of months. During these seasons, hunters can hunt a certain animal in a specific region or you can hunt a specific variety of that animal.
If you're looking for hunting opportunities during the crisp fall weather, here are three animals you can legally hunt in California during that time.

1. Elk
In most areas, elk hunting begins in August. Many seasons are short, lasting only two or three days in a specific zone or for a specific type of elk, such as antlerless. For example, from Sept. 5 to Oct. 1, you can hunt both bull and antlerless elk in the East Park Reservoir,
according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. However, at Lake Pillsbury, you can hunt only antlerless elk from Sept. 9-18, and only bull elk from Sept. 28 to Oct. 7.
2. Deer
The general deer season in California runs from August to November, with archery authorized only in August and September. The season is further broken down by zone, with each zone's season lasting around one month. In addition, the state has quotas for how many deer may be harvested in each zone. In any given zone, the quota might be as low as 50 and as high as 65,000.
3. Wild Turkey
According to the California Fish and Game Commission, the fall wild turkey hunting season begins on the second Saturday in November and lasts for 30 days. Hunters are limited to bagging one turkey of either sex in a single day, and possessing no more than two total for the fall season.
