Many states have similar regulations when it comes to hunting urban deer. Mississippi has implemented an urban deer management program too, in order to keep the deer population manageable in urban Mississippi.

Every zone and county has different regulations pertaining to urban deer hunting, so every hunter should do their due diligence before urban deer hunting.

Here are four things to keep in mind about urban deer hunting in Mississippi:

1. Archery
During archery and primitive hunting open seasons, hunters can bag deer in urban areas that permit hunting. Together, these seasons total about four months spanning mid-fall until late January.

2. Sharpshooting
Some areas have even called upon professionals to employ sharpshooting methods or urban deer management. This method of deer removal typically costs the city between $90 and $300 per deer.

3. In-city hunting in Oxford, Mississippi
In the city of Oxford, the supply of hunters available is less than the demand of homeowners living in Oxford that want hunters to kill urban deer on their property. As a result, the city of Oxford and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks allow bow hunting in parts of Oxford.

The reason for Oxford’s overabundance of deer is its location next to Holly Springs National Forest. The city releases a certain number of permits each year to hunters interested in taking part in helping reduce the number of deer roaming Oxford.

Other cites have similar programs, so hunters are encouraged to contact their city officials to find out the specific regulations for their city. Specific regulations regarding in-city hunting also often apply.

4. Mississippi Bowhunters
Hunters that are interested in learning more about urban deer management in Mississippi are encouraged to join the Mississippi Bowhunters Assocation, or MBA, at MississippiBowhunters.com.

The MBA has worked with the MDWFP in order to establish a Mississippi Deer Management Bowhunting Program, or MUDMBP.
