In the realm of technology, the company states it has an estimated 100 “innovative and online products” along with a sales staff that can help “provide business and postal solutions to all sectors of the economy.” In 2011, the company said it earned NIS 1.780 billion.
According to the Consumer Postal Council, the Israel Postal Company has its origins in the British postal system and was founded as the Israel Post in 1948 when the country declared its independence.
As part of the British model of operating, the Israel Post delivered letters, parcels, telegrams and telephone service. From its beginning and operating as a governmental entity, the Israel Post provided its services through the Ministry of Transportation, later operating under the Ministry of Posts and then Ministry of Communications. In 1951, the Israeli Bank was founded and provided private and public financial transactions.
The Israeli Postal Authority was created in 1986 to have several governmental entities become more self-sufficient. Then in 2002, the framework was established that would “allow for a prudent, step-by-step liberalization of the Israeli postal market,” creating more competition in the country’s postal industry. The new company began operating in 2006 and is now led by Haim Elmoznino, the company’s chief executive officer.
