Are you Suffering From Memory Loss?

Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:35 AM EST

There may be times in your life when you forget specific things, but how do you know if this is a serious problem or just temporary memory loss? If you are finding yourself constantly forgetting things that you need to do or names of people around you, your memory loss could be something that you need to look into.

Here are the top six signs of memory loss:

1. Does your memory loss disrupt your daily life? This is a question you need to ask yourself. Regular age appropriate lapses of memory will happen if you forget an appointment or the name of somebody around you, but you should be able to remember this information in the near future. If you are unable to remember this information at all, you could have a problem.
2. Having trouble planning or solving problems could be a sign of memory loss. When your checkbook, monthly bills, or the work that you do at your job is affected by the fact that you can't remember things, this could be a sign of memory problems.
3. Completing simple tasks such as using your microwave, following a recipe, or remembering the rules of a game can mean that something has changed in your ability to remember.
4. Your memory loss could be accompanied with confusion. Many people who have memory problems will often get confused about dates, what season it is outside, and how much time has passed. This can be a scary symptom because you can forget where you are or how you got there.
5. Vision problems are also a sign of memory loss. You might not be able to judge distance, the color of an object, and you may have trouble reading.
6. Your thought process may give you problems when speaking or writing. This could have you stopping in the middle of a conversation because you can't remember what you were going to say.

All of these symptoms serve as warning signs that you may need to see your doctor for further evaluation.
