Side Effects of Mobic

Wednesday, 12 January 2011 01:27 PM EST

If you are suffering from arthritis, it is very possible that a doctor may prescribe a medication for you called Mobic. Mobic is an anti-inflammatory drug that helps to reduce pain and inflammation in the body by decreasing the amount of hormones that are being released in your body.

You should know of the potential side effects of Mobic before you begin taking it so that you know what to expect or watch out for. Although severe side effects have been reported, they are not common and your doctor will be able to determine if the medication is worth the risk.

While most medications carry some type of side effects, the side effects of Mobic range from in severity. The side effects that are less serious are rarely bothersome and will usually go away once your body becomes accustomed to the medication.

Here are a few of the known possible side effects of Mobic that are not considered to be serious:
  • Stomach pain, stomach upset, constipation, diarrhea, gas, and bloating.
  • Nervousness, dizziness, headaches.
  • Itchy skin or mild rash.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Runny nose.
  • Blurry vision.
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, you need to stop taking Mobic and consult with your doctor immediately. If it's an emergency situation, always dial 9-1-1.
  • Pains in the chest, trouble breathing, blurred vision, slurred speech.
  • Stools that are black, bloody, or tarry; coughing up blood or vomit that resembles coffee grounds.
  • Nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite.
  • Dark urine, yellowing skin (jaundice).
  • Bruising, numbness, weak muscles.
  • Tingling.
  • Fever, headaches, and sore throat with blistering skin, peeling, or skin rash.
Knowing the side effects of Mobic is important before you actually start taking the medication. Your doctor should consult you about them before giving you a prescription. If you are on other medications, your doctor will want to know about them too since some medications, like antidepressants, can interact with Mobic and create other problems. The most common is bruising and bleeding more easily than you're accustomed to.
