Health facilities and educational sources are also important in choosing a place to live for veterans. Those leaving their terms of military service may want to improve their skills through trade schools or colleges, which help improve future career possibilities.

Here are seven of the most veteran-friendly cities to consider living in:

1. San Diego, California — San Diego is considered one of the top veteran-friendly cities by Military Times, which based its findings on a variety of data, including employers, business schools, colleges, universities, and law enforcement services. It has a strong military culture.

2. Virginia Beach, Virginia — Service members and military retirees play a major role in the city’s business environment and culture, according to Military Times. Virginia Beach provides employment opportunities and has one of the lowest travel times to work among other cities. The low crime rate also makes it attractive.

3. Asheville, North Carolina — There are many veteran-owned businesses here, making it appealing to entrepreneurs, according to the United Services Automobile Association (USAA), which offers insurance and financial services. Wages and affordability put Asheville at No. 1 on USAA's list of the best places for veterans to live.

6. Scottsdale, Arizona — The city was ranked No. 1 on WalletHub’s list of the best places for veterans to live in 2016. The assessment was based on such conditions as jobs, health facilities, and quality of life.

7. Plano, Texas — Plano has the lowest percentage of veterans living in poverty and also finished among the top cities with the lowest veteran unemployment rate, according to the WalletHub survey.
