While Sean Connery is best known for his leading roles like James Bond in the “007” films, William Forrester in “Finding Forrester,” and Marko Ramius in “The Hunt for Red October,” the Scottish actor has played his fair share of supporting roles, from Col. Arbuthnot in “Murder on the Orient Express,” to King Agamemnon in “Time Bandits,” to King Richard in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.” Some of his supporting roles even earned him prestigious supporting actor awards.
Connery has proven again and again that he doesn’t need to be front and center to make a name for himself and keep fans happy during his decades-long film career; he shines just as bright in his many supporting roles.
Here are four times the star shined without being the lead actor:
1. Jim Malone in “The Untouchables.”
Certainly his most famous supporting role, it’s also one of his most defining as an actor. He won an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the 1987 film that featured Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness chasing after Robert De Niro's Al Capone.

2. Professor Henry Jones in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
In the third installment of the action-adventure series, Connery played Indiana’s father and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor by the Golden Globes. It remains one of Connery’s most memorable characters, playing alongside Harrison Ford’s leading role.
3. John Patrick Mason in “The Rock.”
Connery won the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Supporting Actor in this action-adventure flick where he plays alongside Nicolas Cage as an ex-con who must help save San Francisco from a madman who has taken Alcatraz hostage and is threatening the city with bioweapons.
4. Draco in “Dragonheart.”
Connery lended his distinctive voice to this 1996 movie, portraying the last dragon left on earth alongside Dennis Quaid who plays a dragon slayer turned friend. Together, they must work together to end the reign of an evil and partially immortal king in one of Connery’s most heartwarming performances.
