Monday, 15 November 2010 04:04 PM EST
Hepatitis, a term usually applied to liver inflammation, can be caused by infection, alcohol, drugs, poisons, chemicals, toxins, or even as a fallout from other diseases. If the symptoms of hepatitis C are not treated, it can turn into chronic – or fatal – liver disease
The top five symptoms of the disease are:
- Flu-like symptoms that may last for weeks for months. These include manifestations such as unexplained fever, chills, weakness and fatigue, and difficulty in sleeping and concentration.
- Appetite changes and feeling liver pain.
- Persistent presence of jaundice may be manifested at a chronic stage of hepatitis and is a top symptom of hepatitis C. The condition turns the skin and the whites of the eyes yellow.
- Other symptoms include dark-colored urine or pale colored stools.
- Nausea or vomiting. Prolonged vomiting can lead to dehydration. If you have nausea and vomiting that does not go away in two to three days, you should consult your medical practitioner.
