Evangelist T.D. Jakes has been enthralled with religion since he was a young child. Today, he is a religious leader sharing his sermons across the globe. As someone who comes from a family of strong roots, he continues to advocate the importance of family in his teachings.
Here are some of Jakes positive messages about home life and family.
SPECIAL: Prayer Changes Your Brain in 4 Amazing Ways
1. On finding a relationship, Jakes advocates loving people for who they are. "Nobody wants somebody who wants them for what they have or the position they're in — you want somebody who wants you for you. In case it all goes crazy and it all turns to dust. I want somebody who loves me in the welfare line, eating gumbo, eating fish, black-eyed peas and rice. I want somebody that loves me. God wants you to love him, not his cars, not his house, not his blessing — love him."
2. Jakes preaches that no one is perfect, so you cannot expect your family to live up to such standards,
according to The Huffington Post. Jakes says, "It doesn't have to be perfect [family]. It doesn't have to be flawless. It doesn't have to be what you had in mind. You can't control it. But it is a gymnasium for love to work out in."

3. Family is a balancing act, notes
Jakes, according to The Christian Post. The goal is for everyone to end up on the same side. "Many times people hold onto their hurt feelings and use them as an excuse to not show up for their families, to which Jakes said people must stop showing their scars and wounds as trophies, and 'have the wisdom to have conflict resolution.'"
