House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer says members of Congress voting for legislation overhauling the healthcare system will be more than willing to defend it to voters in the fall elections.
Hoyer said on CBS's "The Early Show" Tuesday that he feels the public supports many key elements of a new medical care system, including "affordable health insurance for all Americans and families."
He said he believes that a retooled bill the White House will outline later this week can have a chance of winning congressional passage.
The Maryland Democrat said he also believes versions of the legislation that have already passed both the House and Senate have strong provisions aimed at containing spiraling healthcare costs.
