Hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman agreed with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on the guilty verdict reached against Donald Trump: the case was tried in a “kangaroo court” presided over by a biased judge, Fortune reports.
The Pershing Square Capital Management CEO wrote on X Thursday as the historic verdict against a former United States president came down: “I think any objective person would have to agree with Gov. Ron DeSantis here.”
A jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony charges of falsifying business records Thursday in New York State Supreme Court presided over by Judge Juan Merchan.
DeSantis said on X the outcome of the six-week trial was the work of “leftist prosecutor” Alvin Bragg, “a partisan judge” and “a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America.”
The governor said Bragg made a point to “get” Trump with a decade-old case, all the while the Manhattan District Attorney Bragg “routinely” lets real criminals off, endangering New Yorkers.
“It is often said that no one is above the law, but it is also true that no one is below the law,” DeSantis wrote. “If the defendant was not Donald Trump this case would never have been brought, the judge would never have issued similar rulings, and the jury would have never returned a guilty verdict.”
DeSantis concluded by saying law in the United States should not be applied in a way to “become captive to the political agenda of some kangaroo court.”
