Veteran financial guru and former Ronald Reagan adviser Larry Kudlow predicts the Senate may “jam” healthcare bill through really fast after House passage.
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows has "been in discussion and successfully negotiating" with Sen. Susan Collins, a moderate Republican from Maine, and they have been agreeing on a number of issues, Kudlow told CNBC.
"So for the first time, as this person reported to me, if the House can get a vote next week or soon after, the Senate may jam it right through fast. It won't take weeks and weeks and weeks," said Kudlow, a Newsmax Finance Insider, radio talk-show host and CNBC senior contributor.
The GOP has a new plan to repeal and replace Obamacare that aims to bridge the gap between the conservative Freedom Caucus and moderates, according to a document obtained by CNBC. A Freedom Caucus source told CNBC the new health bill would get "very close" to 216 votes.
But other complications on the healthcare front reportedly loom to snag progress.
A resurrected Republican healthcare plan reportedly isn't likely to be ready for a congressional vote before Trump's 100th day in office.
North Carolina GOP Rep. Mark Meadows, chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, and New Jersey GOP Rep. Tom MacArthur, co-chairman of the moderate Tuesday Group, are nearing a deal on changes to the stalled healthcare bill, The Hill reported Thursday.
Trump will mark his 100th day in office April 29.
"The question is whether it can get 216 votes in the House, and the answer isn't clear at this time," an unnamed senior GOP aide told The Hill, referring to the number of votes likely necessary to pass the legislation.
"There is no legislative text and therefore no agreement to do a whip count on."
Another unnamed GOP aide told The Hill: "I don't know that the state of play has really changed over the recess," while a White House aide groused lawmakers are "still in the same place we've been" with no timetable or date for a vote.
