Media moguls John Malone and Ted Turner also are the two biggest landowners in the United States, according to
The Land Report.
Malone tops the list with 2.2 million acres. The former CEO of cable provider Tele-Communications owns lots of land as part of his ranching and beef company Silver Spur Ranches,
CNBC reports. That land is in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado, but most of his property is uninhabited forest in Maine.
CNN founder Turner owns more than 2 million acres in New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Montana, and Idaho, where runs buffalo ranches. He also owns the largest private herd of bison — more than 51,000 head — which he uses to supply his Ted's Montana Grill restaurants.
He recently bought the Standing Butte Ranch in South Dakota, which contains bison, pronghorn antelope and white-tailed deer.
