Gathering Storm in Syria Could Signal Regional War
On Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, Lebanese army soldiers carried coffins wrapped in Lebanese national flags of 10 Lebanese soldiers who were abducted in 2014 and later killed by Islamic State militants at the Lebanese Defense Ministry, in Yarzeh near Beirut, Lebanon. The bodies of the soldiers were recovered as part of a Hezbollah-brokered deal. (Hassan Ammar/AP)

A secret United Nations assessment has reportedly determined that North Korea is providing chemical weapons technology to the Syrian government. The two have also cooperated on nuclear arms – as the North Koreans have long done with another, mutual ally: Iran.

A former top Iranian general recently threatened to use such arms to "flatten" Israel’s biggest city, Tel Aviv. And the top general currently leading America’s Central Command has described Russia — yet another common ally of all three members of this "axis of evil" – as "both arsonist and fireman" in Syria.

Add into the mix an estimated 150,000 Iranian-supplied rockets and missiles in the hands of Hezbollah — including some surely now in Syria, as well as Lebanon — and the stage is set for an horrific regional war. We must stand with Israel as it contends with these increasingly existential threats.
