Austrian teenager Sabra Kesinovic, who became the poster girl for the Islamic State, was beaten to death by the group after she was caught trying to leave Syria,
The Telegraph reports.
The 17-year-old left her home in Vienna for Syria with Sabina Selimovic, a 16-year-old friend, where they both became involved in extreme ISIS propaganda and were shown wearing Islamic headbands, full length burkas, and flaunting Kalashnikov rifles while surrounded by masked male jihadists.
As they fled their homes in Vienna, the two girls left notes for their families stating,"Don't look for us. We will serve Allah and we will die for him."
However, in recent reports,
Kesinovic wrote to her family late last year telling them that she wanted to return "and that she has had enough of the extreme violence she witnessed every day."
The Telegraph reports that news of the girl jihadists' death emerged last year from David Scharia, an expert at the U.N. Security Council's counterterrorism committee.
"We received information just recently about two 15-year-old girls, of Bosnian origin, who left Austria," he said. "Both were recruited by Islamic State. One was killed in the fighting in Syria, the other has disappeared."
Both families were warned last year that they feared both girls to be dead, however, Kesinovic's murder did not come to fruition until recently.
According to the Telegraph, none of the families have commented on the recent developments.
And, according to authorities, a Bosnian Islamic preacher living in Vienna named Abu Tejda, has been arrested for not only funding a terrorist network, but is also being stamped as the reason the girls joined ISIS in the first place.
