President Barack Obama's defense of his anti-ISIS strategy while answering tough questions from an international press corps in Turkey Monday triggered a Twitter storm, with a slew of politicians, pundits and social media followers condemning the remarks as stunningly off-base.
At a G20 summit in Antalya, the
president repeatedly stressed confidence in his approach to Syria.
"We have the right strategy and we're going to see it through," Obama said,
CNN reports.
"There will be an intensification of the strategy we have put forward, but the strategy we have put forward is the strategy that will ultimately work."
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal,
lagging in polling in his Republican presidential primary bid, pounced on the remarks:
Conservative commentator Anne Bayefsky wasn't impressed either, with the president's claim to toughness:
And former Kremlin advisor and commentate Alexander Nekrassov slammed the president as having "no idea."
Economist and research fellow at the U.S. Business and Industry Council Educational Foundation Alan Tonelson called out the president's defensive posture in the speech.
North Carolina conservative Omar Causey mocked the president, urging the nation to build "the border wall" before he returns from his overseas trip.
Other Twitter users were no less incensed by the president's remarks.
Another called the president's speech "stunning" — and equated them with his turning his back on France.
While another blasted Obama for scolding Americans about wanting to vet refugees.
