CNN: Ben Carson Returning to Florida After Iowa Caucuses

Ben Carson will return to Florida after the Iowa caucuses on Tuesday to prepare to speak at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday in Washington.

Most Republican presidential candidates are heading to New Hampshire, which holds its primary next week, or South Carolina, where voters make their choices on Feb. 20.

Carson, however, is heading back to his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., CNN reports. He was scheduled to speak to Iowa supporters later Tuesday regardless of how he fares in the caucuses.

His campaign's senior communications strategist, Jason Osborne, tweeted:

The retired pediatric neurosurgeon attacked President Barack Obama when he spoke at the breakfast in 2013. The speech is widely seen as a precursor to Carson launching his White House bid last May.

"If you want to be president of the United States, you don't go home to Florida," CNN anchor Jake Tapper said in response to the report by Dana Bash. "That's bottom line.

"If you want to signal to your supporters that you want it, that you're hungry for it, you've got to be out there doing it too," he said. "He's not doing it. It's very unusual."
